spot #2 East of Pine City(park, public land)
This spot is around 100 yards
off of two roads and there are walking trails through the area for park
visitors. I don't know if this spot will produce a bear. My hopes are
high but I have to be realistic. I won't waste to much time on it. Maybe
a week if it doesn't get hit I will drop it. It is really thick in this
area. Saplings everywhere. It was hard to find a tree big enough for a
tree stand.

I baited the spot with donuts
and assortment of corn, wheat, sunflower seeds, etc. This spot looks good
despite its location to people and roads. I also took some cloth sprayed
with liquid smoke and hung it from a tree. In addition I poured a gallon
of grease and a couple of gallons of fish juice around the bait. Boy was
the smell bad. The last thing I did was to hang a big basshigh in a tree.
I am doing everything I can to attrack a bear to this spot. I suppose
it is the challenge because it is so close to roads and people. We will
see!

I stopped by the
site because I was in the area. No hits yet!

This spot was hit but by what I don't know. The logs weren't
moved completely out of the way. More like they were spread apart as if
something put it's head in there to eat. Alot of the bait was gone. It
would be great if it was a bear. A bear doesn't have to throw the logs
a mile away from the bait but it does leave doubt as to whether it was
a bear or a raccoon. I didn't see any tracks or dropping and it was raining
cats and dogs. I am so wet! On the way out I did see what appeared to
be bear droppings. It was a very small amount and I could be wrong about
it. Usually it is pretty obvious.

I carried
a hundred pounds of bait to this site to load it up. I am disappointed
that the spot didn't look touched. I new this spot was a shot in the dark.
Maybe it will bet better as fall gets closer.

I wasn't going to check it but I was in the area. Still no bear sign.
I freshened the bait. I won't be back until Saturday. Maybe I'll get lucky.

This spot hasn't been hit since I first put bait out. What is going on!
Why have all of my spots suddenly gone cold. I fresheded the bait only
because I brought it in with me. I don't like wasting it but it is too
heavy to carry out again.

Still nothing. The DNR says there are so many bears they should be eating
out of your hands. Well where are they! Still know sign at this spot.
I freshened the bait again.

I hunted this spot tonight. I didn't see anything but the spot is starting
to look real good. It needs to cool down.

Finally the weather has cooled down. It was in the low 70's.
That is getting to a good temperature where the bears will start moving
earlier. In fact at 7:30 pm I had two bears come in together. They appeared
to be around 90 pounds. I kept looking hard to make sure I was right.
I was willing to shoot a smaller bear in this spot because of the drag
that was required. At 7:45 pm these two bears scattered and I started
to hear another bear in the brush popping his teeth. That is one of the
things bears do to intimidate each other. The bear came in and I again
tried to guess his weight. I guessed around 130-140 pounds. I decided
to take him. Using Satellite's Dead Ringer Broadheads I was able
to put one behind the front shoulder at 10 yards. The bear ran approximately
40 yards and expired immediately. You will have to wait for the story
and pictures that will be in our next release in October. To give you
a hint, we didn't get out of the woods until midnight! See you next year!
