Wisconsin spot - Siren area(public land)
This spot is a good one. 40 acres of public land surrounded by private land on three sides. This spot is open enough to see the bears coming. Since a bear was harvest on this spot by another hunter last year it is sure to produce a bear. It is only 150 yards off of one road and it is easy walking. I will start baiting this spot on August 18, 2001.

August 18, 2001
Baited for the first time. It is harder to hunt in Wisconsin because your only allowed 10 gallons of bait at a time. Doesn't leave much bait for all of the bears. This spot is proven and I expect to see sign in a week. That is as soon as I can get to it since I will be hunting in Minnesota. Spot looks good.

Baited this spot today. I expected it to be hit hard. Again I put to many donuts out. They didn't have to move any logs to get to the bait. I will be checking the bait every third day now so I don't have to leave as much bait. I ran into the landowner next to this public land and helped him out hanging some partical board. He offered me several ways to help me get my bear out if I get one. Good deal!

This spot will definitely produce a bear. The opener is in 10 days. I can't wait but I still have one tag to fill in Minnesota.

I baiting this spot again and it is not being hit like the last time I baited it. It will be interesting because I am hoping to harvest a 300 pound bear in the spot. Logs are being moved and there is alot of scat around the bait. Maybe a big bear has taken over the bait. That happens some times.

I have hunted twice and haven't seen a bear. This spot was suppose to be my sure thing. Unfortunately business will end my season unexpectedly after this weekend. Tonight is my last night to hunt this spot. What a waste for a Wisconsin license. I am bummed!

I was able to hunt this spot one more time. I didn't see anything while hunting but I did see a bear. As I was packing up my tree stand at the base of my tree after shooting hours had ended, I looked at the bait and a bear was standing there. He saw me the same time I did since we were only 10 yards away. The bear crashed through the woods and then stopped. I yelled at him and then got out of there. Man did I age 5 years during that close call. See you next year!
