How do I apply for hunts?

Do
I have to apply every year?
Yes you must send in an application every year to participate in
MBRB.
How
do I apply?
The most efficent way to apply is by filling out the online application.
What
is the cost to be a MBRB member?
The cost to be a member is two tiered. There is a $15 application
fee. This $15 is your fee for one year. It allows you to apply for
any hunts for the year you are applying in. Once selected for a
hunt, there is a $10 hunt fee payable at the orientation meeting.
This is a one time fee for the current year. If you happen to get
selected as an alternate for a second hunt you will not have to
pay the fee again. You will get a receipt for your $10 which you
must present at any other orientation meetings you attend. If you
loose it you will have to pay the $10 again.
What is the deadline for the application?
The deadline for applications is August 15 of the year you are applying.
The only exception to that date is hunters applying for the Lebanon
Hills hunt.
What
is the deadline to apply for hunts?
There has been some confusion about this. The application deadline
date of August 15th is different than any deadline when applying
for a hunt. You can apply for any hunt up to when the lottery selection
is made. Each hunt is described in detail at www.mbrb.org.
The deadline to apply for each hunt is clearly stated in that detail
on the web site.
I
have filled out my application how do I get my MBRB #?
You can now retrieve your mbrb number or your password online. Look
for the link "Forgot mbrb number or password".
How
are hunt participants selected?
Participants apply online and by phone for hunts. That list is then
put into a program which generates the hunters selected. The algorithm
was created by a third party and no one including board members
have access to it or any of the hunters selected.
What
is the special hunt category?
There are occasion where MBRB is called upon to do a special hunt
that is in close quarters. The city requires sharpshooters. These
hunts are usually very high profile and there is zero tolerance
for wounded deer. Therefore only MBRB members with sharpshooter
status can apply for these hunts. In addition those hunters can
be asked upon to retake the sharpshooter proficiency test a second
time in the presence of a board member. This may require using broadheads
with you hunting clothes on from an elevated treestand.
I can’t make an orientation meeting?
All selected hunters must be present at the orientation meeting.
There is no room for negotiation. This is a requirement of MBRB
and the city where the hunt is located. It is a must and there are
no exceptions. If you are selected for a hunt, that is your primary
hunt. You can’t be selected for another hunt as a primary
hunter.
I
can’t make part of a hunt?
If you are selected for a hunt and can’t make part of it you
must communicate it to your coordinator in time to find a replacement.
If you fail to do so you may be excused from the rest of the hunt
and in some cases removed from MBRB participation for one year.
You would be remove for one year if you repeated the violation upon
given a warning. MBRB did not want to do this but the lack of hunter
participation for whole hunts was brought to our attention by the
very cities that provide the hunts to us. We must comply.
Is it possible someone can participate in more than one hunt?
A hunter can only be selected as a primary hunter once. In addition
to that a hunter can be selected a number of times as an alternate
for other hunts. If at the orientation meeting primary hunters don’t
show up then the alternates fill those slots.
It
has been xxx amount of years since I have been drawn. What is up
with that?
There are a number of reasons for this. The two most common mistakes
are:
- Hunters don’t
apply for hunts. They think just because they send in an application
they are eligible for all hunts. That is incorrect. You must apply
for all hunts you wish to enter the lottery for.
- Hunters only
apply for one hunt. Your chances in this case are pretty slim to
be selected. To increase your chances you must apply for multiply
hunts.
- There are
many hunts to choose from but a lot of the hunts are on weekdays.
If you only apply for hunts that happen on weekends, your chances
are less.
The
form to apply for hunts on the web site gives me an error?
In today’s society our pc’s are constantly being attacked
by viruses. Because of this most pc’s now have anti-virus
software like Norton’s running. This software will not allow
you to run any java scripts or forms without your consent. You must
go into your security software and tell it to allow this access
from www.strictlybowhunting.com. Do not disable your security on
your pc! Follow the instructions below in red.
It explains how to add your url to Norton’s consent list.
All you are doing is saying that it is okay to run java from mbrb’s
web site. If you do choose to disable your anti-virus software so
you can apply for hunts, make sure you turn it back on when you
are done. There were only a handful of people who had this problem
last year so you may not experience it. As new pc’s hit the
market or the anti-virus software changes this is going to become
a reality for most of us.
There
has been a problem with applying for hunts from some pc's running
microsoft xp. This actually is a security enhancement by your anti-virus
software such as Nortons. Please add www.strictlybowhunting.com
to your list of acceptable url's that can run scripts from your
pc. Go to "Nortons Security Internet options", "Advance
options", "add site", put in the url, "privacy"
tab, "browser user agent" set browser user agent to "permit".
Make sure you highlight the url you added above when setting the
"permit" flag.
or
On
Norton Internet Security 2004, I opened IS then double click on
Privacy Control. Then Click on Advanced and check Add Site. Added
www.strictlybowhunting.com, highlighted it and checked permit on
scripts. Checked OK and then OK on Privacy screen. Web form still
had the same error. I temporarily disabled IS by right clicking
on IS icon in lower right taskbar, then submitted the form. When
the form is accepted, enable IS by right clicking on the taskbar
icon. Norton IS 2003 is virtually the same with the same problem.
Note: I am behind a router firewall and do not recommend this for
highspeed internet unless a firewall is present. Less risk for dialup
users.
I
have not taken my Bowhunters certification class. Can I still apply?
Yes you can apply for any hunts you wish and you can be selected
for a hunt. When you attend the orientation meeting you must provide
proof that you have taken the class. If you can’t provide
that proof you will not be allowed to hunt. Try and take the class
as early as possible. The list of classes can be found on the DNR
web site.
What
happens at the orientation meetings?
After you have been selected for a hunt, you will receive a letter
from MBRB that will instruct you to attend a mandatory orientation
meeting. If you do not attend the orientation meeting, an alternate
will take your spot. You must bring proof of any MBRB requirements
that you are missing, i.e. your bowhunter education class certificate,
proficiency test certificate, etc. You should arrive early to the
meeting so that you can get registered. If you are missing any MBRB
requirements, you will not be permitted to register for the meeting
and will be considered as not attending. During the meeting the
hunt rules, hunt areas, and any special requirements will be explained.
Assignments to specific hunt areas will be made; this will usually
be based on hunter ranking as selected by the computer in the drawing.
In other words, the first hunter selected in the drawing will be
called to choose where and when they wish to hunt. The highest-ranking
hunter (last one selected in the computer drawing) will take the
last remaining hunt spot. There will usually be an MBRB hunt coordinator
for each hunt. The hunt coordinator is responsible to assure the
hunt operates safely, efficiently, and that all of the hunt rules
are followed.
How
do I apply for hunts?
There are two ways to apply for hunts. The preferred method is to
apply for hunts on the web site. This is the most efficient means
of applying and it cuts down on most errors. The second way is to
call into the MBRB information hotline. The hot line explains in
detail how to leave your hunt selections.
Can a father and son/daughter hunt together?
If a son/daughter is select for a hunt then the parent can hunt
with there child. If a parent is selected for a hunt the child can
not hunt with the parent. We do our best to pair you up.
